Position Duties/Responsibilities

Looking for a Human Factors Engineering Specialist with extensive knowledge of the HFE field in its application to engineering design. Practical experience applying HFE principles to design tasks in nuclear, oil & gas, aerospace or heavy industry is preferred. Candidate will primarily be working on FEED & EPC projects in the oil & gas field and in an environment which encourages openness, teamwork and trust. Candidate will be required to:

  • Assist in the development of Human Factors Engineering Plans during the different phases of the project
  • Assist in the development of project HFE specifications for use by the design team and the vendors
  • Ensure the design is compliant with relevant regulatory requirements as well as client standards
  • Develop and present training packages for different design disciplines and vendors
  • Participate or lead workshops relevant to HFE
  • Attend 3D model reviews to ensure adherence to HFE requirements i.e. accessibility, equipment lifting and handling, maintainability
  • Review engineering drawings from vendors for compliance with relevant HFE criteria
  • Contribute to improve the design with regard to safe performance and human-machine interface
  • Travel to construction sites and module yards and review activities for compliance with project HFE requirements and assist in closing and identified non-compliances
  • Act as a subject matter expert for HFE to various design disciplines on an ongoing basis
  • Lead the activities of several coordinators in the design disciplines

Travelling and coordination with other project teams located overseas may be required. Travel to vendor locations both nationally and internationally is anticipated.

Other Remarks/Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in engineering, preferably related to human factors, ergonomics, safety or industrial engineering
  • Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), Certified Registered Ergonomist (CRE), or other professional certifications preferred
  • At least 3 year professional experience in HFE implementation with at least one year in the petroleum/process, or chemical industries preferred
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, having strong problem solving and good communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office products. Prior experience in modeling software is a plus
